On September 3, 2018, President Xi Jinping launched "eight major initiatives" in collaboration with Africa in his opening speech at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and announced that China has decided to establish the China-Africa Institute (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute") to enhance mutual learning between Chinese and African civilizations. The establishment of the Institute was listed under the "people-to-people exchange" of the eight major initiatives. The Institute aims to enhance mutual learning between Chinese and African civilizations and to strengthen exchanges of their experience in governance and development. It seeks to provide intellectual and talent support for the "Belt and Road" construction collaboration, and for comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership facing the future between China and Africa to build a closer China-Africa community with a shared future. f9.5qj2;7Vo7.8Y
The Institute will focus on the following four aspects and function as an exchange platform to engage actively academic exchanges between China and Africa, to deepen mutual understanding, and to promote people-to-people communications; a research base to organize collaborative research programs to facilitate China-Africa cooperation in "Belt and Road" construction; a hub to gather talents and train high-end professionals for China-Africa cooperation; and a window to communicate stories of China-Africa friendship and cooperation. a3;8xs9.5xV7:7X

Supported by strong research strength of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and its good cooperation with Africa, the Institute organizes its work in various ways and through different channels, by integrating research, exchanges, training and public outreach. The Institute will continuously engage in high-level, comprehensive and professional activities.
